Dr Tapeshwar Ajodha, affectionately known as Dr Taps, is a Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon who has advanced training in Arthroplasty (joint replacements) from the largest hospital in the Southern Hemisphere, where he currently works as a Specialist Consultant.

Dr Taps represented South Africa on an international stage at the AO Young Faculty Meeting, where he won first place. Following this, he was invited to join the esteemed international faculty in one of the world's most prestigious orthopaedic events.

His journey to this incredible feat began in 2023, when he became the youngest Orthopaedic Surgeon in the country to be invited as a Faculty lecturer for the AO- which is the largest international orthopaedic association in the world, based in Switzerland. He was further invited to the Hip and Knee Arthroplasty branch of the AO Faculty in 2024 and thereafter selected as the national representative to the Young Faculty Meeting.

He was elected a member of the South African Orthopaedic Association in 2024. The SAOA awarded him the prize for the best Arthroplasty paper at the national orthopaedic congress in 2024.

His journey in medicine:

He qualified as a medical doctor from the University of the Witwatersrand in 2012 (MBBCh). Achieving a distinction for his research dissertation, he also obtained a Masters in Orthopaedic Surgery from the University of the Witwatersrand- which was presented at the S.A. Arthroplasty Society Congress to an international audience (MMed). 

Dr Taps Ajodha is a member of the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa, where he successfully attained a Fellowship in the College of Orthopaedic Surgeons (FC Orth). In 2024 he was invited by the College as an examiner.

He is a Certified Independent Medical Examiner for the American Medical Association (CIME). 

He is a specialist arthroplasty consultant for an academic hospital and a joint lecturer at Wits University. The Wits Orthopaedic Surgery Department recognised his contribution to training specialists, awarding him the academic excellence award in 2022; and the clinical skills and theatre teaching award in 2023

Dr Taps Ajodha is rounded by invaluable experience in trauma, paediatric surgery, ICU, medical aviation and over a dozen post-graduate courses. His diverse knowledge base is exemplified by him being one of the few surgeons in the country to have passed both the Orthopaedic and General Surgery CMSA Intermediate exams at first attempts.
